Greenery, Color of the Year

Greenery, the 2017 Pantone color of the year and an absolute favorite here at Bloomin’, also just happens to be a great color foundation for your wedding day. Greenery makes any setting more lush and enhances personals just the same. There are more creative ways to add green into your wedding than the usually runner - all greenery boutonnieres are a sweet touch to add to a handsome suit or tux (by the way, if your looking for a great place to rent a suit or tux check out The Black Tux, you wont be disappointed). Added greenery at a ceremony or reception can make you feel like your outside, without actually having to be. Lastly, adding springs of greenery to each guest place setting or escort cards is a fun and interesting way use greenery on your wedding day.

Robby + Stephanie

We adored being a part of Stephanie & Robby’s ‘Gone With The Wind’ wedding.  Even the details such as gold floating candles, hydrangea, pink roses, and a venue that exudes classical romance made the theme come to life. Whenever we get the chance to work at the Georgian Terrace, we are just so excited. The venue is so gorgeous on its own; that it does not need much help to be any more beautiful. Garrett + Kate

It was such a joy for us to kick off our 2015 year with Garrett and Kate's wedding. From the beginning of our planning with Kate, we knew this wedding was going to be a remarkably joyful day.  Our vision was a palette of bold magenta with textured greenery and a hint of soft hues mixed within. We were lucky enough to work with an all-star team of vendors and one fun couple!

Boutonnieres play a big role in the wedding design, adorning and complementing the men’s attire. They often match the design of the bridal bouquet, but the possibilities are limitless. From bold and adventurous, to elegant and classic, designs are unique to each wedding theme. And the boutonnieres can be different for every member of the wedding party -- but the groom’s boutonniere should traditionally be more elaborate than that of the groomsmen and Father of the Bride. After all, the bride and groom are the stars of the show!

Boutonnieres have been around for centuries, originating in the 1600s. Similar to the bridal bouquet, boutonnieres were worn to protect from diseases, odors, and even evil spirits. The word “boutonniere” literally means “buttonhole” in French, with the flowers originally worn through the top button hole on the man’s jacket. Boutonnieres were worn for all kinds of events from formal affairs to day-to-day fashion statements.

In the 20^th century, famous male celebrities and actors were seen in movies sporting various styles of boutonnieres, showcasing the masculinity of using flowers within a man’s uniform.

Cary Grant was one actor known for frequently bearing a boutonniere… and boy, did he have the ladies’ hearts beating!!

Today, boutonnieres are typically reserved for more formal affairs like proms, homecomings, and (ta-da!)… weddings! But who knows? Vintage is “in”, and maybe the trend will circle around so that boutonnieres are a day-to-day accessory again.
