Just a few blocks from downtown Alpharetta on top of a hill sits an adorable little cottage Bloomin’ Bouquets now calls home. It took seven years for Bloomin’ to move out of a basement and into its very own space but oh was it worth the wait. One of my favorite details is all the natural light that flows in from every window filling the rooms. Of course like many things, the studio is a work in progress adding a plant here a picture there but it’s certainly an over due upgrade for the Bloomin’ team. Little details like our adorable aprons help breath life into the new space and show off the work of other creatives we’ve had the pleasure to collaborate with. We hope you'll come see it one day but until then you can check out some photos of the studio.

Chapel Designers Conference: NYC

(Published on: The Bridal Theory)

Last month, one of our Bloomin' owners, JoAnn Jones, attended the 5th annual Chapel Designers Workshop in New York City. This workshop, along with its many others around the world, are for members of the Chapel Designers Organization. This organization was created by Holly Chapple, as a network to keep like-minded floral industry experts connected. In her own words, "it is an organization not only meant to educate, support and mentor creatives, but to also encourage the individual designer to be his or her most authentic self." As a means to offer support and new learnings, Holly hosts annual workshops around the world to gather those that are a part of Chapel Designers, which is what our owner JoAnn attended. JoAnn had the privilege of hearing from some of the wedding industry's most highly esteemed professionals such as: Sage Wedding Pros, The Bridal Theory, Southern Weddings Magazine, Joy Thigpen, Martha Weddings, Silk and Willow, Eco Fresh Bouquet, Meg Biram, and David Beahm Design. JoAnn learned many new techniques for putting together bouquets, how to keep your business up to date in the current marketing world, and was able to make connections with so many others in our industry. For more photos from the conference, check out The Bridal Theory's  blog! (Oh, and that gorgeous arrangement you saw up there was created by JoAnn herself! Isn't it just perfect for spring?)

A Fresh Breath

Sometimes as a florist, or any vendor for that matter, the elements of nature do not work in your favor. We went up to the venue to unload two wine barrels by the altar where the ceremony took place. As we began to unload, we noticed that we only had a hand dolly with no man power to help move these 120 pound barrels and as inconspicuous as you try to be, it’s just impossible with such a large piece. We placed two large floral arrangements upon the barrels and as soon as we began to walk away, gale force winds came over the hill knocking over one of our arrangements.  Almost instantly we heard a thud followed by the crunching of floral stems and we stopped dead in our tracks.  It’s one of those times where you know what just happened, but you would almost rather walk away and pretend that it never did. We held our breath as we turned around and thankfully; the elements of nature were kinder to us than we thought. We re-arranged some of the stems and placed the arrangements on the ground where they would stand stronger.

For all the times that 2014 might have worn us out and beat us around, we cannot help but find ourselves thankful. As we have reflected on 2014, we are thankful for our team that makes ‘work’ fun, clients that make ‘work’ easy, vendors that make ‘work’ simple, and all the other tiny sparkly things around us that make life more beautiful.  No matter what inconvenient circumstances come your way this New Year, they can always be an opportunity for a fresh breath. This year will be full of good things, let’s try to remind each other of that more often!
